Visiting the doctor at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital’s Primary Care office, for many patients, may feel like catching up with an old friend. Fahmi Fahmi, MD, began seeing both adult and pediatric patients at the Great Mills, Maryland, location in July. Board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics, Dr. Fahmi has been in practice in St. Mary’s County for more than 16 years and is excited not only about seeing familiar patients, but also about treating their children, and, in some cases, even their grandchildren.
“I think of my patients like my family; I don’t think of them like my patients,” Dr. Fahmi said. “ I usually like to ask myself, ‘If I were a patient, what would I think?’ I think this is a better way of delivering care.” Dr. Fahmi is not just focused on caring for the individual, Dr. Fahmi Now Seeing Patients at Great Mills Location but also stresses the importance of community health. As medical director of MedStar St. Mary’s Health Connections — the community outreach department of the hospital — and the MedStar St. Mary’s Primary Care office, Dr. Fahmi hopes to bring much-needed health resources to Southern St. Mary’s County. “The patient population here has complex medical conditions,” said Dr. Fahmi. “It presents a challenge, not just from the medical aspect, but from the standpoint of community health.”
In the near future, MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital’s Primary Care office will host Health Connections educational events during the week after office hours. “Our patients are offered the services of Health Connections and Health Connections is offered the services of this office, so it is a win-win situation helping to create a closed loop of care,” said Dr. Fahmi.
