Leonardtown, Maryland (May 21, 2015) – Celebrated in coordination with National Hospital Week each May, MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital (MSMH) hosted an array of exciting events and social activities last week as a way to thank their many dedicated hospital employees. This year’s theme was ‘Let’s Get Social,’ a spin-off to promote the MedStar St. Mary’s newly launched Twitter and Instagram accounts.
The hospital’s schedule of events took place from May 8 through May 15, ranging from free meals to celebrations. Kicking off the Hospital Week celebration was a Wellness Fair on Friday, May 8, offering employees a chance to sample relaxation treatments, grab a bite to eat, and learn about various wellness topics. It also began the start of the hospital’s walking program, Move it to Lose it, and announced the winners for their Biggest Loser competition, an internal weight-loss contest where more than 1,000 pounds were lost.
On Sunday and Monday of Hospital Week, MSMH offered its associates a complimentary meal served up by department leaders and equipped with a pasta bar and lots of desserts. On Tuesday, the hospital thanked their employee volunteers, both in and outside the hospital, during their volunteer appreciation breakfast. An extensive Starbucks-themed coffee bar was also set up later in the day outside the cafeteria full of tasty treats, flavored creamers, syrups, and toppings – a huge hit! Following those events, the hospital held a booth at the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce’s Business Showcase on Wednesday, May 13, located at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center. An annual event, the showcase includes exhibits from around 60 businesses in the Southern Maryland region.
Celebrating the theme of Hospital Week, the Marketing, Public Relations, and Philanthropy department hosted an open house and social media launch party on Thursday. Employees were encouraged to bring their smart phones to the party to post on Instagram and tweet live from the event. Lap tops were also available to follow or like the hospital’s social media accounts right on the spot, including pictures from their pop-up photo booth. The open house was an opportunity to showcase what the Marketing department does every day, the who’s who of the staff, and a chance to be entered for some door prizes.
The week concluded with the hospital’s annual awards banquet at the Hollywood Social Hall Friday evening. Hundreds of associates were welcomed by a sea of blue and coral decorations and flowers as they entered the hall, and spent the night enjoying a catered dinner with dancing and award presentations. Associates were honored with service awards reflecting their dedication to the hospital, with some up to 45 years of service!
Additional photos and recaps of Hospital Week fun can be found here and on MSMH’s social media accounts. These accounts will continue to reflect hospital values, event updates, associate awards, and health tips.
